Ballet - Substitute Teaching Fall 2009 at City College of SF

PE 504 B - Intermediate Ballet - Wednesday 10:00am - 12:00noon

"I am a tango dancer who has always admired and respected ballet. I love taking class (especially barre). I have studied ballet with these teachers over the years...

*childhood - Natalia Njissang via Sunset Parks & Recreation/ SF
*young adult - Michael Simms via Stephens College Summer Dance (on a scholarship by audition)/ Columbia, Missouri, & subsequent classes at Academy of Ballet/ SF
*college - Ballet Faculty at Pomona College & Stanford University
*adult - Theresa Gensler via City College of SF

Thanks to Theresa Gensler's training and encouragement, I have been given various opportunities to sub her morning ballet class at City College in recent years.

This Fall Semester 2009 I am regularly subbing her morning ballet class (30 lovely dancers, some of whom are teachers of other dance genres) to the beautiful music of accompanist Julia Kaufman. I am tremendously enjoying this most unexpected ballet-subbing adventure... I am very grateful to:
*Theresa Gensler for nudging me outside my comfort zone, while being available to answer any questions
*Zory Karah (Academy of Ballet) for presently mentoring me - with extreme generosity - in principles of ballet & ballet pedagogy, while also urging me to find my own way
*Julia Kaufman for supporting me with her music & kindness
*the students of PE 504B for being warm & receptive."
